I’ve been really slack updating the news section of the website lately, I’ve been putting in some serious hours with practice/gigs/work/life, but I’m not complaining, I’m enjoying everything as much as ever, its just hard to find time to sit behind the computer and type

We’ve been doing more weeknight gigs than usual, and looking back over the weeks there’s been 5 gigs a week, a few years back this was kind of a little dream I had, so its been a very surreal thing to realize its happened. Some days its been hard to do a 5hr gig straight after doing a 10hr day at work, but getting to do the thing that makes me the happiest always pushes through and i forget about everything

Over the last two months, two things I should have updated on here are the recordings we’ve been making. Damo and I played on our brother from Perth, Rusty Pinto’s new cd, we pretty much learned the tunes on the spot and laid them down live. Everything from RnB, Rockabilly, Country and Jazz, and they sound killer. Rusty’s voice has come up amazing as usual and we played some nice stuff that were proud off. I ended up using the Gibson L50 I acquired last year on most of the tracks, I got a lot of tones out of it that I didn’t expect at all. A guitar I bought for one purpose to use for Two Timin’ Playboys, I’ve ended up uses for a lot of different gigs! Funny how things work out

The other recording we made a few weeks back was our new one. We’re calling this one “Call Of The Wild“, a lot things on this one are very much “us” but we’ve also tried a few new things to. As always there a mixed basket of styles, but it all fits, we were lucky enough to have Ben Franz play some steel on a few tunes and they’ve come up great. We’re heading back down to Melbourne in two weeks to do the final session and were hoping on a July release date.

I posted a little sneak peak you might have seen on Facebook of the artwork done by our good friend Chris Wilkinson from England, when discussing with him what we were after it reminded me why we were good mates. We’re bang on the same page with art/music/guitars. When I head to Europe in July Chris will be playing drums with me for the first two weeks.

If you’ve been noticing someone with a camera around at gigs a lot more than usual, thats our mate Riley Tyler. We’re working on what will end up being a little series of clips that Uppercut Deluxe will present on the site about what we get up to. The first one being a day in the life, and should hopefully only be a few weeks away

Ill try and keep things a bit more updated than they have been, also a big thanks to all the folks who keep coming to our shows!

The line up for the night was Two Timin Playboys, with special guest, our brother from the West, Rusty Pinto who’s been in town for the week for a few shows

We had a super fun night, and mixed it up with a lot of jazz standards, western swing, RnB and Country. It was pretty much a night of Mid century roots music, you could say

Special thanks goes out to our long time friend and bass player Cal Robinson who drove 3 hrs to play the gig after Damo fell sick on the day. Damo’s fighting fit now!

It’s on! Our very first trip to Perth!

In all our years of touring we’ve never been to Perth. We’ve always been willing, eager and able, but the price of flights has always stopped us dead in our tracks. But not anymore!

We’ll be teaming up with our “brother from the West” Rusty Pinto for both shows.

We’re starting at “The Hotrod Hayride” in the UK,and I’ll be backed by our good mates Lynette Morgan and The Blackwater Valley boys

Then the bros will fly out from Australia and join me and we’ll do a two week run that will take in “Get Rhythm Go Wild” in Germany and “Rockin Drive In Barn” in Belgium

It’ll be only coming up to year since our last trip, but it’s seems like a lifetime ago.
So many great memories & I can’t wait to do it all over again!
